Robert Redd - Author & Historian

Meet Robert Redd

My name is Robert Redd and thank you for visiting my author page. I live in central Florida, south of the “world’s most famous beach.”

My main historical interests are the Civil War and the history of the area I live in. I am one of those very lucky people who have a great job in the field of history. I currently serve as the Cultural Coordinator for the County of Volusia.  I also served as Executive Director for the New Smyrna Museum of History for four years. I also served as a volunteer member of the Volusia County Historic Preservation Board.  Please realize that all posts and comments are my own and do not represent the views of the County of Volusia.

I am what would most likely be called a “regional”, or “local” historian. I write about the area I know; Florida. I don’t have a particular time period I specialize in but rather write about what interests me. If it’s interesting and there’s a need I will pursue it. Trust me, the ideas are endless.

My fifth book, Hidden History of Civil War Florida, was published by Arcadia/History Press in June 2022.

My sixth book, co-authored with Nick Wynne and Joe Knetsch, Florida at Sea: A Maritime History, was released in May 2023.

I am under contract to pen my seventh book for Arcadia Publishing. This title will be a bit of a departure from some of my other work and will take a look at aspects of Human and Civil Rights in Florida. Look for a release date most likely in late 2023 or early 2024. I have several other projects in varying stages of development.

I have been blessed to receive solid constructive advice from other authors and hope to be able to do the same for others. If you would like to contact me please do not hesitate to reach out.,
